PARADOX is written in Japanese Kanji as ‘矛盾’
We have an old story for this Kanji.
A literal translation of ‘矛’ is ‘Spear’ and ’盾’ is ‘Shield
A dealer was selling Spear and Shield, he said ‘This Spear will break any Shield’ and at the same time he also said ‘This Shield will defend you from any Spear’
Then one of the customers asked him ‘So, if I try to break the Shield with the Spear, what is gonna' happen?
The dealer couldn’t answer.
あるところに盾と矛を持っている商人がいました。このことを誉めると、
商人「私の盾は頑丈でどんなものも突き通さない。」
また、矛を誉めるとこう言った
商人「私の矛は鋭くどんなものでも突き通すのだ。」と。
ある客は言った。
客「あなたの矛をあなたの盾に突き通そうとしたらどうなりますか?」
商人は答えられなかった。
